Arguments for and against raising the debt ceiling...?

Before anyone answers, I don't want a bunch a kill the Republicans, kill the Democrats, please, honest answers that have thought and truth behind them. I was totally against raising the debt ceiling, Iooked at it like giving a person who is in debt over their head, more room to get even further in debt. No one in our government has shown great restraint in their spending. Now they say if we don't raise it in the next month we will default on our loans, and that is just unacceptable to me. I am on the fence regarding this debate and I would like to hear other non-biased, non-party opinions.
